When can babies have Zucchini?
Babies can enjoy zucchini from around 6 months of age, when they are developmentally ready to start complementary foods. Zucchini has a naturally mild flavour, high water content and soft texture when cooked, making it a gentle vegetable for babies who are learning to eat solid foods.
Although zucchini is not particularly high in iron or calories, it provides vitamin C, potassium and fibre, and is an excellent vegetable to introduce alongside iron-rich foods such as chicken, beef, lentils or tofu as part of a balanced diet.
Is there any choking risk?
Raw zucchini is firm and can be difficult for young babies to bite through, increasing the risk of large pieces breaking off and causing choking. Cooking softens the flesh, making it much easier and safer for babies to manage.
