When can babies have Corn?
Corn can be introduced from around 6 months, but preparation is important. Although corn provides carbohydrates, fibre and several B vitamins, its outer skin can be difficult for young babies to digest. Serving corn as a puree, mash or finely chopped after cooking makes it easier to eat while your baby's chewing and digestive abilities continue to develop.
Is there any choking risk?
Whole corn kernels are small, firm and can be difficult for young babies to chew effectively, making them a potential choking hazard.
For babies starting solids, corn should be blended, mashed or finely chopped after cooking. Offering cooked corn on the cob (with most loose kernels removed) allows babies to practise chewing while reducing the likelihood of swallowing whole kernels. Loose kernels become more appropriate once chewing skills are well established.
